Would never stay here again. The pool is not open for the summer and we were not informed of this. They advertise 2 playgrounds and there is only 1. The roads have potholes all over, couldn’t even ride my bike. The gate is constantly up so anyone could come in. The bathrooms are filthy. The fishing ponds are overgrown. Mosquitoes and tics everywhere. They definitely need to spray. The manager never addresses any issues. Don’t waste your money here!! - Sharon V

Location and Accessibility

Acorn Campground is located at 419 NJ-47 South, Green Creek, NJ 08219, USA. This address places it in Green Creek, a community within Cape May County, New Jersey. Its position on Route 47 South makes it a moderately accessible destination for New Jersey residents looking to explore the southern reaches of the state.

For those traveling from Northern or Central New Jersey, access typically involves taking the Garden State Parkway South. Route 47, also known as Delsea Drive, is a major state highway that runs through much of South Jersey, providing a direct route to the campground. From the Parkway, campers would exit and head south on Route 47. The drive time will vary significantly depending on your starting point, but for many New Jersey locals, it's within a comfortable driving distance for a weekend or week-long trip.

From the Philadelphia area and other parts of South Jersey, Route 47 provides a straightforward connection. Various county roads and smaller state routes also feed into Route 47, making local navigation relatively easy once you're in Cape May County. It's important to note that, as with many rural routes, some sections of Route 47 can be two-lane roads, and travelers should be mindful of local traffic conditions, especially when towing a recreational vehicle.

One of the primary advantages of Acorn Campground's location is its proximity to popular Jersey Shore destinations. The campground is advertised as being conveniently located near both Cape May and the Wildwood beaches. This means that within a short drive, typically around 15-25 minutes, campers can access the Victorian charm and pristine beaches of Cape May, or the lively boardwalks, amusement piers, and wide sandy shores of Wildwood. This provides campers with a central base from which to explore the diverse attractions of the Southern Shore Region.

While the reviews mention issues with the internal roads ("horrible condition," "potholes all over") and lighting when pulling in from the street, indicating potential challenges when maneuvering within the campground, the overall external accessibility via major state routes remains a practical benefit for New Jersey travelers looking to reach this part of Cape May County.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For New Jersey residents considering Acorn Campground for their outdoor recreation needs, it’s important to weigh its potential benefits against the concerns raised by recent customer experiences. While its location offers undeniable advantages, a clear understanding of what to expect is crucial for a satisfying local camping trip.

The primary draw for locals to Acorn Campground is undoubtedly its strategic location in Green Creek, Cape May County. For New Jersey families, having a campground that is a short drive to both the historic charm of Cape May and the vibrant boardwalks of Wildwood is highly appealing. This proximity allows for easy day trips to beaches, amusement parks, shopping, and dining, maximizing the vacation experience without extensive travel. The convenience of being located directly on Route 47 South also makes the journey straightforward for many residents across the state.

The campground also offers a variety of site types, including full hook-ups and pull-throughs, which can accommodate a range of RVs and tents. For those seeking seasonal camping options, Acorn Campground provides an opportunity for a consistent summer presence in the beloved Jersey Shore region, potentially offering a more affordable alternative to traditional vacation home ownership. This consistent base allows families to build traditions and familiarity with the area.

However, it is crucial for New Jersey locals to acknowledge and consider the recent customer feedback when making their decision. Reports of non-operational swimming pools, poorly maintained roads with potholes, unkempt fishing ponds, and cleanliness issues in the bathrooms indicate significant challenges in the on-site experience. Concerns about security due to an unmanaged gate and issues with insect control (mosquitoes and ticks) also suggest that the current operational standards may not meet typical expectations for a family-friendly resort campground. The repeated mention of unresponsive management is also a critical factor for long-term satisfaction.

In conclusion, while Acorn Campground's location provides excellent access to popular New Jersey Shore destinations and offers the convenience of various site types and seasonal options, prospective local campers should proceed with caution and verify the current operational status and condition of amenities before booking. For New Jersey residents prioritizing proximity to the shore and a potential seasonal spot, it's essential to manage expectations regarding on-site facilities and maintenance, and perhaps inquire directly about the current state of advertised features to ensure a pleasant and trouble-free camping experience.
