Deep Branch Family Campground distinguishes itself by providing a more relaxed and unassuming camping experience compared to some of the larger, more activity-packed resorts. It's a place where the emphasis is on enjoying the natural surroundings and the simple pleasures of camping. Historically known as Eagle's Nest Family Campground, it has been operated by Pastor Bill Sammons for nearly 30 years, with a focus on family values and a welcoming atmosphere. Reviews indicate a generally "quiet and relaxing" environment, and many visitors appreciate the "friendly staff and fellow campers." While some specific challenges, such as past issues with cabin conditions and certain maintenance aspects, have been noted in feedback, the campground's core appeal lies in its peaceful setting and proximity to key Delaware attractions. Our goal is to present a balanced and informative view of Deep Branch Family Campground, helping prospective visitors from Delaware determine if this unassuming yet well-located retreat aligns with their camping preferences and expectations.
Deep Branch Family Campground boasts an excellent location at 13177 Eagles Nest Trail, Milton, DE 19968, USA (though some listings may show 26633 Zion Church Rd, Milton, DE 19968, indicating close proximity or a different entrance/mailing address for the same facility, it's advisable to use the provided address for navigation). This address places it squarely within Sussex County, a region celebrated for its pristine natural areas and its proximity to Delaware's famous coastal resorts. Milton itself is a quaint and historic town, offering a charming escape from the more developed beach areas. A significant highlight of the campground's location is its adjacency to the Primehook National Wildlife Refuge, with the shallow Deep Branch stream running along its property line from Flaxhole Pond. This provides a unique natural setting for campers, perfect for wildlife observation and a sense of tranquility.
The campground's accessibility is a major draw for Delaware residents. It is situated just minutes from the Atlantic Ocean and Delaware Bay, making quick trips to the beach incredibly convenient. Major roadways such as US Route 1 are easily accessible, providing seamless connections to popular beach towns like Rehoboth Beach (approximately 10-15 minutes away), Lewes, Bethany Beach, and Fenwick Island. This excellent connectivity allows campers to enjoy the peace of the campground while having ready access to boardwalks, tax-free outlet shopping, a diverse array of restaurants, and countless recreational activities including fishing, boating, and watersports. Deep Branch Family Campground Reviews
Update from my last post and the Campground’s response.Pam.- We accept your apologies.I do want to clarify that what I wrote was exactly what happened. From the moment we shared with you that we found bed bugs in your cabin and that I was bitten several times, you did not believe us. We showed you dead and live ones, but you were always just waiting for your “review”, which we never received an answer for. Instead, you repeated that “[you] had zero [bed bug] issues last year due to measures [you] took. [We] were the very first rental of this cabin this year.” Well, bed bugs can grow resistant to treatment and hide, and they will only become active when there is a host, and they sure were active when they bit me so much that I had a severe allergic reaction and an infection that could have quickly become serious if I had not gone to urgent care and received medical treatment.Obviously, the measures you have taken are not enough, and you need to do more so that it does not become a regular experience at your campground. On my part, there was no communication issue nor language barrier. After our terrible experience, I asked you for a full refund and you were clear when you said you would not do that. The most you would do was refund us for the nights we did not stay and the deposit (after you checked that we left the cabin clean…). Then, you said you could give us a rain check that we could use next time we would go, but of course, we don’t plan to do that after all that has happened, so it was of no use to us. I talked to you in person to help you understand the cost and how bad this whole situation was for us, but you didn’t want to understand—you were too busy prepping for a picnic. A partial refund was all you would do.Now, after the review I posted, I can confirm that you have given me a full refund, but when I talked to you in person, you gave me the partial refund and said that you would not answer my calls nor emails even if I reached out to you 500 times. I’m grateful that you see things differently now. I hope that you don’t treat other customers the same way you treated us.As I told you when I made the reservation, this was not our first stay at this campground. We have been there several times since 2004, inviting family and friends to spend numerous weekends and weeks with us when it was under Eagles Nest Management. We never had any problems or complaints; our experience there was always spectacular. We created many memories with our family and friends and that was our intent again this year, but sadly, it was absolutely awful. So, after this entirely bad experience, I hope you take greater measures to take care of your campground so that this won’t happen again to any of your customers, and please be more considerate and empathetic towards your customers, and resolve problems promptly.I want to end by wishing you, your team, and the owners the best, and thank you for your response.********************************************
Jun 06, 2025 · Mayra O JBeautiful campground in the woods! It was amazing to camp here. They have a playground which was great for the kids. We were also 10 minutes from the beach so it was great to stop by the beach during the day. We got to cook over the fire. There were some mosquitoes but nothing out of ordinary. We used some incense sticks that worked well. Some reviews talked about some smell. We smelled something slightly one night but it wasn’t overpowering. Overall the smell was not an issue. The showers were great with hot water. Loved how the bathroom had worship music playing constantly. Also Pam was so nice and accommodating. Really appreciated all her help!! Thank you!
May 27, 2025 · Elizabeth PakGreat family campground! Beautiful well put together. Lots to do and the staff makes your weekend perfect! They had a movie in the pool.. amazing. Beautiful scenery great place to get away for the weekend!
Jun 02, 2024 · William MooreIt says family campground but there is nothing to do around / activities conducted by them. There is a FOUL smell that comes when you sit outside or walk within camp site. Issues with lot of mosquitoes. I was surprised that I didn't see any activity at night but than made sense why would someone sit outside and get bug bites. After camping we all had bug bites for few days. We were there for TWO nights, I would never recommend ANYONE to be there even if they get a free stay....
Jul 19, 2024 · Saurin PatelThe cabin was very nice. The next morning the smell of rotten sewer was extremely bad! I have a very strong stomach but I couldn't take it and had to leave. The owner claimed there was a chicken house close by. Sorry but that did not smell like any chicken house or slaughtering plant. I believe they may have a crack in there holding tank. It is totally disgusting! Owners are very sweet people and could have a profitable business if the smell would go away.
