While it embraces a primitive camping style, focusing on the core elements of outdoor living, it still offers essential facilities that make your stay comfortable and convenient. It’s a place to unplug and unwind, whether you’re setting up a tent for a rustic experience or bringing a smaller recreational vehicle. The natural beauty of the area, combined with the peaceful atmosphere, creates an ideal setting for reconnecting with family and friends, or simply enjoying some much-needed solitude.
This campground isn't just about pitches and fire rings; it's about fostering an environment where military families and DOD personnel can create lasting memories. It's an ideal choice for those who appreciate the simplicity of camping and wish to escape the more crowded, amenity-heavy parks.
The tranquil setting of Skipper's Point, despite its proximity to essential facilities and even an Army airfield, maintains a remarkably peaceful ambiance. The occasional background noise from the airfield is often described as a subtle "white noise" by visitors, blending into the natural soundscape rather than disrupting it. This balance makes it a uniquely serene location that still offers a subtle connection to the surrounding military community. It is a testament to how thoughtful planning can create a sanctuary for relaxation even in a location that serves a broader purpose.
Skipper's Point Campground is strategically located at 1601 Skippers Point Rd, Gunpowder, MD 21010, USA. For Marylanders eligible to use the facility, the campground's accessibility is a significant advantage. Its proximity to the vast natural landscapes of Maryland, including the scenic Bush River, provides ample opportunities for outdoor activities like boating, fishing, and enjoying the natural waterfront.
Furthermore, being part of the broader APG MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation) system means that the campground benefits from infrastructure and management designed to serve the DOD community effectively. While the campground itself offers a primitive experience, its location ensures that essential services and support are within reach if needed. Feb 12, 2022 · AugusteDOD personnel only - must have ID to reserve and use. Relatively quiet (there is an Army airfield nearby) primitive campground. Not sure if the RV spots are live anymore, I've only seen tents. Porta-potty only, no showers. Boat ramp is great for putting small boats and canoes. Playground is in good condition.
Aug 11, 2017 · Gerald HIt was quite a nice area years ago, but has been neglected for almost a decade now resulting in campsites no longer usable and a playground that is overgrown that kids can't use anymore. Still a beautiful area with access to the Bush river and the Chesapeake Bay.
Nov 13, 2020 · Timothy SchickedanzWe were stationed in Edgewood when I was born. We left when I was 7 but many memories were centered around here and the rod and gun club. It has not changed very much.
Feb 21, 2020 · Tina DraperI don't think anyone has been down here in a while. Overgrown and not used, but a beautiful area.
