Winding River Campground capitalizes on this natural asset, positioning itself as a go-to location for those who love kayaking, canoeing, and embracing the beauty of the state's waterways. The campground's focus on river activities, particularly its popular river trips, sets it apart, offering a dynamic and engaging experience for adventurers of all skill levels. Winding River Campground is conveniently located at 6752 Weymouth Rd, Mays Landing, NJ 08330, USA. This address places it firmly in Atlantic County, a region known for its blend of natural beauty, historical significance, and proximity to the Jersey Shore. Mays Landing itself is a charming community, offering a tranquil setting away from the bustling tourist hubs, while still being easily accessible.
The campground's strategic position along the Mullica River is its most significant locational advantage. The Mullica River is one of New Jersey's most pristine and undeveloped rivers, offering extensive opportunities for paddling and enjoying untouched natural landscapes. This makes Winding River Campground particularly attractive for those who prioritize water activities as part of their camping experience.
Accessibility to Winding River Campground is excellent for New Jersey residents. It is situated off major roadways, making it a relatively straightforward drive from various parts of the state. From urban centers in North and Central Jersey, a scenic drive leads you to the quiet charm of Mays Landing. For those in Southern Jersey, the campground is even more conveniently located. Furthermore, its proximity to popular shore towns like Atlantic City (approximately a 30-minute drive) means that campers can easily combine their river adventures with a day trip to the beach or explore the vibrant entertainment options available. The ease of access ensures that visitors can quickly transition from their daily routines to a refreshing outdoor escape without extensive travel time.
Winding River Campground provides a range of services primarily focused on enhancing the river experience, alongside traditional camping amenities.
River Trips (Kayaking & Canoeing): This is arguably the campground's signature service. Winding River Campground organizes river trips on the Mullica River, offering rentals of kayaks and canoes. They provide various trip lengths, with the 3-hour trip being a popular recommendation for those bringing their own kayaks, and longer, more challenging canoe trips noted for their "challenging obstacles to navigate." This service allows campers to explore the beautiful river even if they don't own their own paddling equipment.
Campsite Rentals: The campground offers sites for both RVs and tents. While specific details on hookups (electric, water, sewer) are not provided in the reviews, it is standard for campgrounds to offer a variety of sites to accommodate different camping styles.
Shuttle Service for River Trips: For those embarking on river adventures, the campground likely provides a shuttle service to transport paddlers and their equipment to the starting points and pick them up at designated end points along the river. This logistical support is crucial for multi-hour river trips.
General Campground Amenities: While not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews, it is typical for campgrounds of this nature to offer basic amenities such as restrooms, showers, and perhaps a small store for essential camping supplies and firewood. These are standard expectations for a comfortable camping experience.
Pet-Friendly Policy: While not mentioned in the provided reviews, many campgrounds in New Jersey are pet-friendly. Prospective visitors should inquire directly about their pet policy to ensure their furry friends are welcome.
The primary focus of the services appears to be on facilitating enjoyable and adventurous river experiences, making it an ideal destination for water sports enthusiasts.
Winding River Campground distinguishes itself with several key features that appeal to outdoor enthusiasts and those seeking an active camping vacation.
Premier River Access: The most significant highlight is its direct access to the Mullica River. This allows campers to easily embark on kayaking and canoeing adventures right from the campground. The river itself is known for its natural beauty and is less developed than many other waterways, offering a more pristine paddling experience.
Engaging River Trips: The organized river trips are a major draw. The description of the canoe trip as having "a lot of challenging obstacles to navigate" indicates that the campground offers more than just leisurely floats; it provides an engaging and adventurous paddling experience that can be truly rewarding for those who enjoy a bit of a challenge. The option to bring your own kayaks for a recommended 3-hour trip also highlights flexibility for experienced paddlers.
Active and Outdoor-Oriented Focus: Unlike some campgrounds that prioritize amenities like pools or playgrounds, Winding River Campground's core identity revolves around active outdoor pursuits, specifically paddling. This makes it a perfect fit for individuals, couples, or families who want their camping trip to involve physical activity and exploration of the natural environment.
Memorial Day Weekend Popularity: The mention of a "great Memorial Day weekend" suggests the campground is a popular choice for holiday weekends, indicating a lively atmosphere during peak times and an established reputation for delivering enjoyable experiences. This also hints at potentially good social opportunities within the camping community.
Scenic Natural Setting: Being on the Mullica River means campers are immersed in a beautiful natural setting, likely surrounded by trees and wildlife. This provides a tranquil backdrop for camping and enhances the overall outdoor experience.
These highlights collectively paint a picture of a campground that is ideal for adventurers and nature lovers who prioritize river activities as the centerpiece of their outdoor getaway.

May 26, 2025 · Richard HlavacekOur go to place for kayaking. We bring our own kayaks and recommend the 3 hour trip.
Jun 28, 2025 · Chris DWinding River Campground is a kids and pet friendly, family owned and operated beautiful campground on the banks of the Great Egg Harbor River.Kayaking and tubing adventures are organized daily, they transport you up the river and you get to land right back at the campground. Kayaks and tubes can be rented if you don’t have your own. There’s a small beach along the river, fishing is a fun activity done at the bulkhead. The sites are very large, not crowded and your slide won’t smack your neighbors awning. Everyone comes, from massive Class A to the smallest tents. Most sites are relatively level and shaded.Highly recommend for everyone !!Large, clean poolWell stocked campground store, small arcade and pool table in the game room.Organized activities almost every weekend.
Aug 23, 2024 · Tammey MayMe and my family just came back from a small 3 day camping trip staying at a cabin. the cabin was pretty clean there was a little dirt as expected from staying at a campground. the cabin was kept cold from air conditioning and it the beds were very comfy. there was what looked like a stove that was very old but it’s okay bc we love cooking on the fire. tubing is a 10/10 experience you they take you out in a big white van on what seemed like a 15 minute drive and you cruise down the river there is parts where you have to paddle away from sticks and parts where it’s really shallow but it’s a nature that’s what your signing up for. (I do recommend a mesh bottom if you want to bring food or your phones) also the workers there are super nice they let me and my friend play pool until it closed and they were very kind to us every time we went in the store. The bathhouses are a little older you can tell from walking in but it still works perfectly fine the showers were hot and they give you a place to change it was a great experience compared to other campgrounds. there isn’t much to do once it gets late but sitting at the lake is very peaceful and walking around and admiring the other campers is a good way to pass time. Overall i recommend this campground we had a great time
Jul 31, 2024 · Ya CoolIt's a beautiful campground but they desperately need new ownership. We just stayed here about a week ago with our new R-Pod RP-193 and the grounds were great, but the first night a golf cart came flying up to the campsite adjacent to us where some kids were playing and a man jumps out and starts screaming at them. We're talking about kids under 10 years old. We had no idea what was going on but the parents ran up and seemed as confused as we were. The guy was ballistic because apparently they were playing with a small kids basketball and for some reason that was offensive to him. A crowd gathered and we tried to calm him down, along with the parents who looked genuinely scared for their kids, but he screamed that he was the owner of the campground and that it was private property so if we don't like it we can leave. He was sure to include "don't expect a refund!" Eventually the parents called the police and other folks there kept him away from the family, so he cursed a bunch and then sped off. It was really the craziest camping experience I've ever had, so I'll give it that, but definitely not taking my kids back there until they get new people running it. It'd be five stars with the right owners, but I can't reward someone who thinks it's okay to treat people, much less children that way, so I gave it just one well earned star. If you go here, avoid the owner at all costs. Had no issues with anyone else there.
