Johnny Yurts Reviews
We stayed at Johnnys Yurts over Fathers Day weekend/my birthday weekend. It was supposed to be a one night stay, but unfortunately we ended up leaving that same night. When we first arrived everything looked as presented online. It was a cool place for what it was. It was clean, we had what we needed and the beds were comfortable. There were a few bugs here and there which we were able to deal with. However, as we were getting ready for bed my 9 year old noticed something running across the wall space above her head. We saw a couple scorpions in our room. My husband tried to get it down and away from the beds but as he knocked it down we could not find them anymore. This made us really uncomfortable, especially with young children. We decided to pack up late at night and make the 1.5 hr drive back home. We were disappointed that we were not able to stay the entire night. I let the owners know when we got home and she stated that they would have pest control come out. I wish it would have been done before our stay so we wouldn’t feel like $ was wasted. The AC was also leaking water and there was a puddle next to the bed. I understand that we were in a tent, however, I wish we could have made it work.
Jun 17, 2025 · VanessaWe booked a Yurt to stay at during my son's baseball tournament at Field of Dreams (Prickly Pear Yurt). We had been wanting to stay here for a long time, and were so excited to finally stay in a yurt. I think it's a great concept, and the inside is set up super cute, however, the small A/C units in each yurt cannot keep up with the TX heat. I would NEVER stay here again in the summer. It was so hot during the day, and barely cooled off in the night. The A/C unit has a sign to not turn it below 74 degrees or it will freeze up. It barely blew air, and constantly stayed on since it couldn't keep up. Also, our hot water was not working for a while. We had to figure out the issue (the water heater was turned on, but the breaker was tripped). After fixing the breaker issue the water was barely warm enough to shower. We had all the kids get into the hot tub for their "baths" since the shower was freezing. Another issue we had was the shower head shot straight out of the shower door. This caused the floor to have a lot of water, and unfortunately soaked all of my clothes for the next day. After this happened we decided to drive home at midnight (no A/C, no hot water, soaking wet clothes from bathroom floor flooding). I will not stay here again, especially in the summer.
Jun 10, 2025 · Lana BWe got to stay here during the weekend of our annual Run Like A Warrior 5k that my daughters and I host. We recently moved away from Johnson City and needed a place to stay for the weekend of our event. Johnny Yurts did not disappoint! The room was cozy, and homie- In fact the pillows were amazing. My oldest daughter said it was the best sleep she's had since forever. Having late stage Lyme wreaks havoc on one's sleep, so this was big!The outside sitting area was absolutely perfect for unwinding after the event. We sat out there for a couple of hours and watched the storm roll in over the hills. It was exactly what we needed at the end of a long day.The complimentary bottle of wine Jenny left on the table was also a perfect touch!
May 26, 2025 · Sharon IbanezWe love staying here. Having 2 young toddlers, typical hotels and BnBs don’t fit our needs. The comfort and amenities at Johnny’s yurts make it much more relaxing. The distance between the suites means you have space and won’t bother other guests. The kitchen en-suite means you can make a small meal there or you can run into town and bring back food to dine al fresco under the oaks; then Sit back with a cool class of rosé while the kids run and play.We only live like an hour a away, so whenever people come visit from out of state, we’ll head out to Enchanted Rock for the morning, find a winery on our way to the yurts, dine under oaks, get the kids to bed and enjoy a bottle of wine and hot tub under the stars.Day 2 - you have the option of Fredericksburg, Pedernales Falls, or the crazy amount of wineries that dot the region. If you’re looking for a perfect weekend get away, far from the noise, and space to unwind… you can’t beat Johnny’s Yurts.
Apr 21, 2025 · Sarah C.I start by stating, our experience was unique and another party staying there did not experience the same thing as us. We were in the rodeo yurt. I also understand a yurt is essentially glamping, and it is not a hotel and should not have the same expectations. My main problem with the yurt was water pressure. The water pressure was so low only 1/8 of the shower head had water coming out. The water trickled so low that the tankless water heater could not stay on and it was just a pure cold shower. In addition the shower leaked all over the floor, in a similar manner that is typical of an rv shower. The second irritant was the skylight. Where it’s nice to have at night to see the stars (which are brilliant), it would have gone a long way if a cloth or a mechanism that could be drawn over skylight; like a blind.1. the skylight can be used to see the reflection of everything a person is doing in the bathroom. 2 the sun came right down on my face through the skylight (this was also the day before the summer solstice, so it could be the angle for that time of year) while in bed .No where else in the yurt did the sun shiner , but directly on my bed and face. So forget sleeping in; especially if you’re exhausted from having difficulty sleeping in the stagnant air. It actually felt better outside the yurt with the constant wind then inside where there was an a/c stating it was 74.The remaining part of this review is me nit picking, and could be normal to staying in a yurt. As this was my first experience in a yurt my expectations could have been too high. You cannot lower the a/c below 74 because the lines will freeze. Also the cold air condensates and drips in the middle of the night on the desk below splattering between the two beds.Because the yurt is not a closed system like a tent, we had bugs constantly inside. In the two nights I caught a scorpion inside, two grasshopper (katydid).Unlike a tent where if you zip up, the fabric fully closes you off and encapsulates you; unless the tent’s flap is open or there is a hole it’s not possible for bugs to get inside, but bug were coming up through floor and fabric or through the vented top where the roof and wall meet.Last because the area was constantly and pleasantly windy, when the fabric would move, the canvas would slap the wooden lattice framing hard at time disturbing your sleep if you not use to this from a tent camping perspective. I say this because my wife and children were not, and did not sleep well. The positives about the yurt are the beds were comfortable. The sky and location is undeniably gorgeous; in particular at night. The yurt was very clean, and had all the amenities to cook. I have a feeling if I would have gone to in the yurt during late fall or at a different time of the year my experiences may have been different. So I end my review with stating again, my experience seems to be have unique as a couple that stayed there at the same time as us did not have water pressure issues, no issues with insects despite being near our location, and their yurt was very comfortable inside temperature wise.
