Hillcrest is well-connected within San Diego. From downtown San Diego, it's a short 10-15 minute drive north via Fourth or Fifth Avenue. If you're coming from other central San Diego neighborhoods like Balboa Park or North Park, you'll find it equally accessible, often just a few minutes away. One of the beauties of The Cottage's location on Albatross Street is its slightly quieter position within the bustling Hillcrest area. While it's just a stone's throw from the main thoroughfares of University Avenue and Washington Street, which are brimming with shops, cafes, and other businesses, its specific spot offers a pleasant neighborhood feel. This means you can enjoy the lively atmosphere of Hillcrest before or after your meal, taking a stroll and exploring the unique local businesses, but without the immediate noise and traffic right at the restaurant's doorstep.
Parking in Hillcrest can sometimes be a challenge, especially during peak hours, as is common in many popular urban neighborhoods. However, there is often street parking available on Albatross Street and surrounding residential streets, though it may require a bit of searching. Public transportation is also a viable option; numerous bus lines serve the Hillcrest area, connecting it to downtown San Diego and other parts of the city. For locals, ridesharing services are also a popular and convenient way to get to and from The Cottage.

The Cottage Reviews
Overall, a very good experience. However, this may be because our group of 7 went at 8am on a Saturday. We were seated right away and the food came out in
Sep 26, 2014 · Lisa LamTheir breakfast is amazing. Their service is friendly and quick. Expect to pay around $15-$20 for a good sized breakfast. Their freshly squeezed orange juice is amazing. Tip: Try their stuffed french toast. It's simply out of this world.
May 31, 2012 · Surya ManchikantiThis place is cute and quaint, but i feel it is overrated. Long waits ALL THE TIME, but mostly because it's small. I like their chicken Waldorf sandwich and soups, but I wouldn't consider it top notch quality and flavor. I come here when I want to take people to a place with simple recipes and touristy. Definitely cafe status food, but still worth a try!!!
May 20, 2014 · Claudia SantiagoThis place had a long wait but the food was so worth it. My friend and I decided to stop here on our way to La Jolla Beach. It was such a great choice. The service was great. The place is a little small. Nonetheless we will come back when we are in SD again!
Aug 11, 2018 · Aileen GonzalezI was there for brunch on Saturday. There`s a wait of at least 45 minutes, but it was worth it. The food and service were excellent! I recommend the grapefruit mimosa.
